The week of Aquatennial

Wow, how is it already the last week of July??!  Which also means it's one week to County Fair time!

Aquatennial week was filled with busy days, lots of driving time, great memories and full of pride for the young women who fill my days!

Wednesday morning Emma, Joelle and I loaded up the mini-van and headed to downtown Minneapolis to cheer on the 2010 Miss Western Fest Jen DeBlieck at the Meet the Candidates event for the Minneapolis Aquatennial.  So proud of Miss DeBlieck!  Beautiful as always!  We were also able to meet up with the 2011 Western Fest Royalty (Brooke, Cortney and Taylor) at the event and find out how much fun they had the night before at Sparkle Night with the Minnesota Twins!  This was the first year Emma and I have not attended with the girls... mixed feelings on missing it.  But so glad they had a GREAT experience!

Back into the van and destined for Costco to resupply on diapers and wipes!  And a little walking around too!  We also picked up a new family movie to watch the next time we have a lull in the action, I'm thinking December at this rate....

Thursday was back to work on so many levels.  All week our family has been completing the horse chores, which really was a chore during last week's heat and when Bob was working!  But we all survived and farm dog Charlie got a fantastic hair cut out of the deal!  Haven't seen that dog bound around like he does now for a very long time!  Emma had a reprieve from working her horse during the heat, although they both needed every day we have up until the horse show next week.

Friday was a busy morning at work, then home to change and load up with royalty committee member Kirsten and the 2011 Royal Family with the 2010 Princesses following behind to be at the Aquatennial Coronation at Ted Mann Hall on the U of M campus!  Again, so proud of Queen Jen.  She was beautiful at the coronation and represented Western Fest and Granite Falls with pride and grace.  Back in the car and home at 1 AM!

Saturday was a special day to see and spend some time with cousin Emily and her family!!  They are in transition from Oak Harbor WA and on their way to North Carolina.  We enjoyed some chit chat time and also lunch at Carl's Bakery!!  The kids enjoyed feeding the ducks afterwards.  It was so great to see them!

The rest of Saturday was getting more things done at the house, yard and assemble rabbit cages!  All in preparation for the latest addition to the Painted Ridge Rabbitry - the Cinnamon!  This is a rare meat rabbit breed that we are so excited to get started with.  This also meant more windshield time on Sunday to meet a new friend in Heicke Wright who arranged for us to get a high quality breeding pair and teach us Cinnamon Rabbit 101.  They are 4 months old, so we have a few more months before we breed.  This is a rare breed that is hard to find - right up my alley!

This week brings more adjustments to the rabbitry cages to perfect our setup/design and as we prepare to move all remaining items out of the store.  Bob is making more contacts to find possible buyers for the remaining product. Lots of lifting and packing to do in the upcoming days.

    Hi Bug...
    We are just getting to know our Cinnamon's but so far they are friendly and cuddly. Of course that comes with handling too. When we made the decision to go with Cinnamons, we did so because we heard from others that they have a great temperment and much easier to handle than other large breed rabbits.

    The Hollands are super fun. They are quirky and lovable and love to play. We also have some cuddlers in the bunch and those that we have trained to give us bunny kisses. One of the bucks from our litters is litter box trained with his new owners and has the run of their apartment. He's very sociable and loves attention and pets.

Today.... The next chapter

And here we are... October of 2020. I'm not sure where the time has gone, while struggling between feeling it has gone too fast and yet being ready for things to move along and leave a few chapters in the past. To say that 2020 has tested our strength is a bit understated. But, even on our worst days and weeks - we have come out smiling.  Don't get me wrong, those smiles aren't always easy and sometimes they mask the exhaustion, the grief and the tears. But boy when they are truly out of happy moments and seeing how we survive from these difficult times, those smiles are worth millions. Today... was a day that hit me hard... unexpectedly hard. Today, being everything I need to be right now is hard...  it's exhausting... it's daunting... it's what this chapter is.  Today... oh boy today has been a hot mess... And here we are in 2019!

I've gotten away from regularly writing, and with the start of 2019 I decided now is the time to revisit writing! It's a great way to look at events happening in our lives and remind ourselves of the blessings we have no matter how busy or complicated life gets! Part of 2019 includes returning to school work for me. As I look at my future goals for my career, I decided the time is now to look at getting my degree in Organizational Leadership.  I applied for admission to Metropolitan State University ( www.metrostate.edu ) and started courses in January! 1 week in and I'm already wondering why I thought this was a great idea. This first semester back at it will most likely be the most difficult as I'm taking on 3 courses - if I survive this, I'll be able to make this happen! What this means is fitting in course work during lunch breaks and after the girls head to bed, and of course hours on the weekends. If I look a little tired, this may explain the bags under m...

Saying Goodbye

Saying goodbye is never easy, in fact it's one of the most difficult things to do.  Our strength is being tested today as we make the decision for Botti that means we have to put his needs before ours. I will never forget the day we drove to get Botti.  It was a complete surprise to Emma, a Minnesota spring day, March 2006.  She was grumpy about having to go to the Twin Cities with us, thinking it was about getting stuff for the store.  But then we pulled up to Petco in Eden Prairie, again she thought we were just picking up things for the cats and Rosie.  Then we got inside and met up with the animal shelter there for pet adoption day and asked to see the collie puppies we had inquired about.  That's when we met Botti and a few of his litter mates.  His eyes captured our hearts.  Emma's smile was priceless when we asked if we should bring him home. Botti hasn't had an easy road health-wise, but he made it clear that he would always watch over...
