Stop and Smell the Flowers

I realize it has now been 2 months since my last posting.  I'm sure the hoards of friends and family are anxiously waiting for another rambling... hehehehe... Well, for the 2 of you still reading, I did have a few things to share.

In the last 2 months we have had multiple litters of baby rabbits, have lost baby rabbits, have been bit and scratched by more than a few.  And yet, we continue to enjoy breeding and raising rabbits.  Adding to the new additions around here, one of the platys in our fish tank had babies!  This was a new discovery that has been fun to watch.  I think we have 6 little ones in there, but they're hard to count.

Aryn continues to climb up on everything but still will only take 3-4 steps at any given time.  We're thinking this will change soon as she really doesn't like to crawl on her knees when she's wearing shorts.  So she frequently looks like she's doing the bear crawl.

Joelle had a recent fight with a bug and it's still up in the air who won the battle.  The bite was above her eye and then her eye proceeded to swell.  Thanks to some natural remedies the swelling is going down.  JoJo frequently told us she had an owie and needed a band-aid.  Other than that, Joelle talks non-stop.  I will post a video soon, and her little cackle of a laugh makes everyone smile.  She is a smart little ham.

The little girls (and Emma too) have a great new friend coming over 4 days a week!  I'm so glad we decided to go with the Young Adults group from church to the winery in Belview in January!  So happy we sat with Krista Polla who said she was looking for someone to nanny for during the summer months before she starts student teaching in the fall! She has been a god-send.

Emma has started back at the Reading Therapy Center 4 days a week.  Once again, we wouldn't be able to do this for her if it weren't for all the volunteer drivers!  We're lucky she loves going, otherwise the 7 AM departure time all summer would be a little more difficult.

Bob continues at Home Depot, working whatever random hours he has each week.  I did get him lined up to utilize his tiling skills though by helping Paul and LeAnne Syring with a bathroom remodel at their daughter's home here in Granite Falls.

And now we enter the week of Western Fest, it's retirement year!  Yep, Katy and I are holding our ground on this one and will be retiring with the crowning of the 2013 Western Fest Royal family.  Now we don't kid ourselves, we know this isn't really the end.  We have offered to serve as guidance for the new coordinator and I think Katy will probably give a speech to future candidates, but our coordinating days will be over.  This is a good thing, but also a sad thing.  We like to think we have made a difference in the lives of some of these young women.  They certainly have left their mark on us.  But this will be a busy week, so I had to take time to enjoy my flowers while I can!  Oh how I love my irises, just wish they bloomed longer....  Enjoy!

Today.... The next chapter

And here we are... October of 2020. I'm not sure where the time has gone, while struggling between feeling it has gone too fast and yet being ready for things to move along and leave a few chapters in the past. To say that 2020 has tested our strength is a bit understated. But, even on our worst days and weeks - we have come out smiling.  Don't get me wrong, those smiles aren't always easy and sometimes they mask the exhaustion, the grief and the tears. But boy when they are truly out of happy moments and seeing how we survive from these difficult times, those smiles are worth millions. Today... was a day that hit me hard... unexpectedly hard. Today, being everything I need to be right now is hard...  it's exhausting... it's daunting... it's what this chapter is.  Today... oh boy today has been a hot mess... It was a recognition of how much I'm grieving and still so thankful for this life we have. I'm so thankful to have an amazing friend, Erica...

And here we are in 2019!

I've gotten away from regularly writing, and with the start of 2019 I decided now is the time to revisit writing! It's a great way to look at events happening in our lives and remind ourselves of the blessings we have no matter how busy or complicated life gets! Part of 2019 includes returning to school work for me. As I look at my future goals for my career, I decided the time is now to look at getting my degree in Organizational Leadership.  I applied for admission to Metropolitan State University ( www.metrostate.edu ) and started courses in January! 1 week in and I'm already wondering why I thought this was a great idea. This first semester back at it will most likely be the most difficult as I'm taking on 3 courses - if I survive this, I'll be able to make this happen! What this means is fitting in course work during lunch breaks and after the girls head to bed, and of course hours on the weekends. If I look a little tired, this may explain the bags under m...

Saying Goodbye

Saying goodbye is never easy, in fact it's one of the most difficult things to do.  Our strength is being tested today as we make the decision for Botti that means we have to put his needs before ours. I will never forget the day we drove to get Botti.  It was a complete surprise to Emma, a Minnesota spring day, March 2006.  She was grumpy about having to go to the Twin Cities with us, thinking it was about getting stuff for the store.  But then we pulled up to Petco in Eden Prairie, again she thought we were just picking up things for the cats and Rosie.  Then we got inside and met up with the animal shelter there for pet adoption day and asked to see the collie puppies we had inquired about.  That's when we met Botti and a few of his litter mates.  His eyes captured our hearts.  Emma's smile was priceless when we asked if we should bring him home. Botti hasn't had an easy road health-wise, but he made it clear that he would always watch over...
